Are you a Folkie?
So I’ll admit it:
This year was my first time at folk fest. Ever.
I know, I guess you’d figure the skinny white girl who digs the festival scene and the beats that go along with it would have experienced Edmonton’s Folk Music Festival before. In my defense, summer camp always got in the way.
So how was my first time at folk fest? Well, lets just say it would be an understatement if I said it was great.
The day started by meeting up with Taylor, who taught me everything I needed to know. Lesson number one: No shoes. We rock this festival in bare feet, my friends.
His lucky shirt won first draw in the lottery and thus a bad ass tarp location for the main stage.
The rest of the day consisted of stopping in on various workshops, visiting the beer gardens a few times, eating greasy food, getting sunburnt, and running into a few friendly faces along the way.
The boy toy met up with us later for the main stage where I discovered a new favourite artist: Brandi Carlile. Wow can that girl sing AND get the hill riled up in the process.
So the end verdict? Buy a full weekend pass next year and live it up at Gallagher Park.
